‘Brat pack’ Kameda sets out retirement plan
TOKYO: Japan’s world flyweight champion Koki Kameda has announced a seven-year “sayonara” plan to end his explosive career at 30 after dominating a third weight division. The eldest of Japan’s controversial “brat pack” trio of sibling boxers, Kameda won the WBC belt last month, three years after winning the WBA light flyweight crown. “After defending my title two or three times I’ll step up to super flyweight,” the 23-year-old told Saturday’s Japanese media. “Once I have won that world title I’ll say ‘sayonara’ at 30.” Kameda could not resist a dig at fellow Japanese Hozumi Hasegawa, who defended his WBC bantamweight title for the 10th time in Kobe on Friday. “If he’s sticks around in bantamweight for another four or five years there’s a possibility I would fight him,” said Kameda of the 29-year-old Hasegawa. “I’ll be at my peak at 27.” reuters
